Exercise Experience Sharing and Evaluation Workshop on ASEAN+3 Exercise Management Training Program on 4-6 November 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand

The Exercise Management Training Program is a project initiated by the Department of Disease Control (DDC) of Ministry of Public Health, Thailand and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), in collaboration with the Ministries of Health and Ministries of Agriculture in ASEAN Plus Three countries. This project aims to build the capacity of the people responsible for exercise management for preparedness, prevention and control of emerging infectious diseases in ASEAN Plus Three countries. It is financially supported by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) through ASEAN Plus Three Emerging Infectious Diseases (EID) Programme Phase II.

The primary objective of the Evaluation Workshop is to share valuable lessons from the ASEAN Plus Three Exercise Management Training program and follow up on the impact of the program utilizing the knowledge on exercise management through actual development of exercises in the countries involved in the program. Some of the previous activities relating to this project are as follows:

r A 5-day pilot ASEAN Plus Three Regional Exercise Management training workshop on designing, developing, conducting and evaluating exercises was conducted on 31-March – 4 April 2008 to train national personnel from Brunei, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Singapore ,Thailand, and Vietnam.

r As a follow up and continuation of the program, the first sub-regional exercise management training workshop for was held from 9-13 June 2008 in
Brunei for participants from
Brunei,
Indonesia,
Malaysia and the
Philippines.

r The second sub-regional exercise management training workshop for officials from
Cambodia, Lao PDR,
Myanmar,
Thailand and
Vietnam was held in
Cambodia from 15-19 December 2008.
